The automatic weather station AWS-A at about 3050 m elevation was established in the central area of the Vernagtferner in 2017. The station is used to observe meteorological parameters directly above the glacier, together with the increase and decrease of the snow cover and ice melt at high temporal resolution. For this purpose, temperature, air pressure, wind and the components of the radiation balance are measured, among other parameters.
